Silent Antelope – Welded Metal Antelope Sculpture
Silent Antelope is a welded metal antelope sculpture built from reclaimed steel tools and shop materials. It has a tall, quiet stance with a raw industrial look, but the overall shape stays clean and simple.
I built the horns from curved pliers, which give the piece most of its character right away. The body is made from rectangular steel tubing, with smaller steel pieces used for the legs and tail. The materials are straightforward, but together they give the sculpture a lean, balanced shape that feels a little more refined than polished.
The marks, texture, and wear in the metal are left visible, so the piece still keeps that shop-built character. I like using reclaimed steel because the material already has something to say before I start working with it. In this piece, that roughness works well against the cleaner shape of the antelope.
At about 18 inches tall, Silent Antelope has enough height to stand out without taking over a room. It works well on a desk, shelf, console table, office display, studio shelf, or workshop setup. It also fits naturally in modern industrial spaces, rustic interiors, creative studios, or anywhere that could use a strong but simple metal art piece.
The raw steel is sealed with a clear coat to help protect the finish while keeping the natural color, patina, and texture of the metal visible. Handmade near Kansas City, Missouri, this stand-alone sculpture is built from real reclaimed parts and has its own shape, marks, and character.
