Mr. Hatchet – Welded Metal Hatchet Sculpture
Mr. Hatchet is a welded metal hatchet sculpture built from reclaimed steel, old tools, and shop materials. It has a raw, rugged look with a little attitude, and the name fits it pretty well.
I built this piece using an axe head, a hatchet head, a large bolt, springs, and a section of garden rake. Each part still shows its own wear, marks, and texture, which gives the sculpture that rough, shop-built character. I like using materials like this because they already have history in them before they ever become part of the piece.
The large bolt gives the sculpture a solid base, while the axe and hatchet heads create a bold, upright shape. The springs and rake section add just enough detail to make the piece feel a little unexpected without making it look too polished or overworked.
At about 13.5 inches tall and just over 4 pounds, Mr. Hatchet has enough weight to feel sturdy, but it still fits easily on a desk, shelf, bar, tabletop, workbench, or office display. It works well as industrial tabletop decor, a shop or garage accent, or a conversation piece for someone who likes reclaimed metal art with some grit.
This piece has a raw metal finish, so the natural color, patina, and texture of the steel are left visible. Handmade near Kansas City, Missouri, this one-of-a-kind welded scrap metal art piece is built from real steel parts and made to stand out.
